Abstract

During a class on interaction design, as part of a communication design bachelor’s course, students worked on a project called “Digital Non Digital”, applying digital interaction concepts to the design of analogical pieces. The main purpose of the project was the apprehension of concepts “interaction”, “goals”, “clues”, “restrictions” and “feedback”, without unnecessary concerns with matters of programming and digital implementation. Designs should not include any kind of digital interaction, and should be physical objects, preferably made from paper. Interactions should relate to the goals of the design, contributing directly to the communication of a specific message. Results included an expressive variety of techniques and types of interaction, and project descriptions showed an excellent comprehension of concepts. This experience joins the discussion about pedagogical possibilities for the fields of interaction and interface design.
