Abstract

The plastics industry annually produces more than 270 million tons in products, of which many have little time to use and are subsequently discarded, which generates a significant environmental liability, since the total decomposition of these materials may take some centuries. When it comes to environmental impact, another important aspect to consider is the industrial wastes, which are often discarded inappropriately. This work had the objective to develop a cup mat for beer made from residue of the brewing industry and vegetable resin, allowing the use of the discard of the industry and reducing the consumption of plastic. After the development of the product with different percentages of incorporation of the residue, tests of thickness, density, mechanical resistance, water solubility and visual acceptance of the developed product were made. The results showed that the developed product had a high acceptance by consumers, as well as being quite resistant both mechanically and in terms of contact with water. In this way products developed with this type of material can be an alternative to reduce the environmental impact of the industry while maintaining a high level of consumer acceptance.
