Abstract

Current technological trends are increasingly instigating the use of computer science and programming algorithms in project development. The design area is influenced by these new strands, and benefits from the innovative digital tools for problem solving. In this context, the designer is faced with the need to learn and understand programming languages in order to enter the professional market and scientific research centers. In the same way, universities seek to keep abreast of new developments and begin gradually to insert the teaching of logic and object-oriented programming in their higher education programs. With the purpose of identifying this reality, this article aims to check the presence of disciplines focused to the programming of undergraduate courses in design in the ten main Brazilian universities, raising questions about the importance of this new strand and the role of the designer in front of it. In this sense, this work contributes as research in the area of university education by addressing new trends of technological knowledge, and expand the borders between design, graphic arts and computer science.
