Abstract

Nowadays a book cover says a quite few things about its content, however at English Renaissance the luxury books and its bindings had a range of meanings that communicate more about its owner than about itself. Through imagery and bibliographic analysis this article is about the interrelationship between editorial design and craftsmanship related to fashion. For such, embellishment practices applied to fashion that were not restricted to clothing and had been used in book bindings commissioned by nobility were studied . It is exactly the design capacity of development through the connections with the different acting areas that reveals to be, in publishing, a differential, whereas it is not limited by common medias and searches out of its field of activity a way to stand out, even in times when access to publishing was restricted to a small amount of society. In contemporary production a lot is discussed about design bounds and its deployment in diverse areas, however in time when the term had not been created yet, this connection was already a reality extensively explored.
