Abstract

Typography was born in an age of transition and confusion, at a time when powerful forces changed the course of civilization. This art accelerated the process of transformation, lending itself to the role of spreading knowledge. Portugal counted with several typographers where some were foreign and others were Portuguese such as Rodrigo Álvares. He was a typographer who had his own printing house in Porto and developed work projects, such as books for Bishop D. Diogo de Sousa at the end of the XV century.
As a reflection of his work in Portugal, we highlight the incunabulum “Evangelhos e epístolas com suas exposições em romance” where we analyze the graphical production of this one based on this work, more specifically; the characters, the engravings and the pagination. Due to the beauty and ornamentation of the graphic contents this work is considered a piece of art.
