Abstract
The very specific conditions of an unexpected and ‘last minute’ public commission: presenting Sardinian’s contemporary craft production within the exhibition “Past Future, craft design in Sardinia”, hosted at Milan’s Triennale during its 2017 design week, turned out as unique opportunity to explore the connections between graphic design, animation and exhibit design.
Beyond being at the center of our research team’s current research topics the territory – too often underrated – that connects visual communication, motion pictures and the spatial dimension, has a long and established tradition in each of these specific field.
Moreover, the convergence between factors such as the developments of digital technology, ubiquitous access to information and social networking, is pushing the craft of visual communication towards new and exciting hybrid ‘places’, allowing to re-interpret and re-combine old ideas and to bring innovative approaches to the contemporary scenario of visual communication.
By describing the development of the multi-screen installation we designed for the exhibit, this paper aims at placing the audiovisual medium in an historical perspective, discussing the emergence of a new world of application for the language of multimedia.
